Michael Travaglini, Executive Director

Michael Travaglini was appointed Executive Director of the nine-member PRIM Board on February 27, 2004.  Previously, he was a Senior Vice President and relationship manager for Putnam Investments, servicing a number of the firm’s defined benefit accounts.  From January 1999 until January 2003, Michael was the First Deputy Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts under former State Treasurer Shannon P. O’Brien.  In that capacity, he served as the Treasurer’s chief financial advisor with primary responsibility for overseeing the following Treasury departments: cash management, debt management, Office of General Counsel and the PRIM Board.  Prior to becoming First Deputy Treasurer, Michael worked for the City of Boston.  He was appointed Executive Officer of the Boston Retirement System in 1994 by Mayor Thomas Menino.  He managed all aspects of the city’s defined benefit program, including the oversight of nearly $2 billion in pension assets and benefit administration for over 20,000 active employees and 14,000 retirees.  Michael began his career as an associate in the Boston law firm of Goodwin, Procter & Hoar.  He received his B.A. in Government from Harvard University in 1985 and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1990.  Michael is a member of the Massachusetts bar. Michael lives in Winchester with his wife, Brenda, and their twin sons, Matthew and Zachary.
